Accounting
Accounting
Section titled “Accounting”Eclipse’s accounting layer is a full double-entry general ledger with a tamper-evident audit chain. The features below cover the bookkeeping work you’ll do every period.
- Recurring Journal Entries — schedule JEs that post automatically (accruals, depreciation, intercompany).
- Journal Entries — create balanced drafts, post them through period controls, reverse posted entries, or import complete journals from CSV without partial ledger changes.
- Chart of Accounts at
/finance/coa— manage account structure, preview CSV imports, batch edit tags, drill into account registers, review balances, and spot core, default, bank-linked, integration, ecommerce clearing/reserve/payout/gateway/refund/fee, and account-health issues with protected structural edits. CSV imports preserve the existing chart, save valid accounts and parent links together, report invalid or duplicate rows, and safely return the original result when the same import is retried. - Income Categories in accounting settings — route sales classifications only to active revenue accounts in the current organization. Creating, editing, deleting, or seeding categories requires Chart of Accounts edit access; the legacy invoice-line backfill also requires Invoices edit access.
- Other Income at
/finance/other-income— record interest, rent, dividends, gains, and other non-operating amounts as supporting entries, then optionally post a balanced journal by choosing the debit and Other Income accounts. Unposted entries do not change financial statements. Posted entries are locked, link to their journals, and can only be corrected with a reasoned reversal. - Accounting Currency at
/settings/currencies— choose a functional currency from Eclipse’s supported accounting catalog before entering financial activity. Eclipse locks the choice after accounting activity begins and rejects unsupported codes or mismatched journal, invoice, invoice-line, and payroll evidence. Foreign-currency conversion and exchange gains or losses are not available yet. - Depreciation at
/finance/depreciation— maintain a supporting schedule for depreciation planning. These entries do not post to the general ledger or change financial statements; use Journals to record the accounting entry. - Tax Depreciation Planning at
/reports/tax/depreciation— record asset inputs and review planning estimates. The estimates do not post to the general ledger, determine a filing position, or verify current tax treatment; review them with a qualified tax professional. - Divisions — organize flat business segments and assignment rules inside the active company. Class, location, and department variants are not available yet.
- Month-End Close at
/finance/month-end-close— review periods, run close checklists, and see connected-source blockers before finalizing books that depend on imported activity. - Bank Reconciliation at
/banking/reconciliation— match statement activity, keep uncleared transactions available for the next statement, and close balanced work without a write-off. If a difference remains, choose the expense account before Eclipse posts one balanced adjustment. Reopening preserves cleared matches and the original adjustment history instead of silently rewriting the ledger. - Automation Rules — create ordered expense and synced-order rules with bounded, retry-safe actions.
- Audit Log at
/organization/audit-logs— review filtered organization activity with built-in AP, AR, close, export, and issue saved views; actor, action, object, status, request/event correlation, changed-field summaries; and CSV export for the visible rows. Org admins can also manage encrypted Slack, webhook, and email audit notification channels at/settings/audit-notifications. The/automationshistory panel also shows banking rule changes, bank workbench actions, recent rule matches, approval decisions, AP payment-run actions, AR invoice/payment/reminder actions, close task/period-lock actions, visible-row workflow counts, 7/30/90-day cross-workflow summaries, row-level links into the filtered audit log and owning workflow, and AP/AR/close audit handoffs without exposing raw request or provider payloads.
