Inventory

Inventory keeps the products and stock for your active company together. Open Inventory to review products and stock, or open Products → Categories to organize the catalog.

Create categories when you need them, and optionally place a category below another category. You can also choose an active revenue account as the category default so new product work starts with the right accounting classification.

Categories belong to the active company. A category, its parent, and its default revenue account must all come from that same company. Category edits are saved with their audit history, and Eclipse blocks deletion while products or subcategories still use the category.

When you approve a product match that posts COGS, Eclipse validates the approval and product in the active company and keeps the linked order item, match record, and COGS calculation in that same company.

When an expense represents purchased stock, link it to an existing product or create the product from the expense. Eclipse saves the product, expense link, exact cost layer, stock quantity, inventory value, and audit history together. Shipping and other landed costs entered through product onboarding stay with that same cost layer.

If the request is retried, Eclipse reuses the original link instead of adding the stock twice. If any part cannot be saved, the product and quantity remain unchanged so you can correct the issue and try again.

Paid storefront orders reserve stock once. With automatic COGS enabled, Eclipse consumes the matching cost layers and posts the COGS journal without subtracting the same stock a second time. Duplicate payment notifications reuse the original order and COGS evidence.

If a checkout request is retried before Stripe responds, Eclipse reuses the same checkout-attempt identity for that cart instead of opening duplicate sessions.

Average-cost and FIFO inventory can use this automatic path. Specific-identification inventory requires you to choose the exact cost layer, so public storefront checkout is unavailable for that costing method until a layer-selection workflow is configured. If you turn off automatic COGS, Eclipse does not post storefront COGS automatically.

An empty category list stays empty until you choose to create categories. Eclipse does not add or copy categories just because you opened the page.

Use the starter-category action when you want a suggested ecommerce category tree. Eclipse adds the complete parent/child set together, so a failed item cannot leave a partial tree. Running the action again keeps compatible existing category names and adds only missing starter categories.
